Where to look for periodical articles, biographies, and criticism about Hawthorne and The Scarlet Letter:

EBSCOhost

 

    ·        Site Location:  Click on the link (http://search.epnet.com/login.asp) or go to the Burns Library webpage at http://www.loyolahs.edu/library and click on Resources, then Ebscohost.

    ·        Enter the login user name and password from the blue flyer in the library.

    ·        After you login, you will see two database choices, EBSCOhost Web and MagillOnLiterature and MagillOn Authors. You will be using both of these. Please follow these instructions:

    ·        EBSCOhost Web:  Click on the link then enter the following search strategy into the search line.   DE "HAWTHORNE, Nathaniel -- Criticism & interpretation" Or, just enter the terms, Hawthorne criticism.

    ·        Next, a results list will appear. Click on the full text articles that mention The Scarlet Letter.

    ·        MagillOnLiterature and MagillOnAuthors:  You will need to click on both of these, but you will be searching them one at a time. For the MagillonLiterature, link, enter the terms, Scarlet letter.  For the MigillonAuthor link, enter the terms, Hawthorne, Nathaniel. You will see results for each of these links and choose the ones that interest you.

 

Reminder:  You are to read the results and look for discussion about the symbols in The Scarlet Letter. Also, you may do these searches from home; however, you will need to pick up a blue Database Password flyer from the library. If you need help, do not hesitate to ask a librarian.
